I recently went to Torrisi Italian Specialties, largely known for its prix fixe dinner menu but also its turkey sandwich. I got there a few minutes before its 11am opening and there were already people waiting at the door. This must be amazing, right? It’s only been lauded everywhere and many food blogs wax poetic about how tender the meat is. Well, it definitely was tender and juicy, but that was really the only good thing about it. The lettuce was shredded so thinly that it wilted immediately ==> pretty limp and watery, making the entire sandwich kind of soggy. The dry-ish roll (I got the hero) did not add anything, and had the lettuce been crisp with bright flavor (or any flavor), it would have been a nice lunch — think Bakesale Betty’s fried chicken sandwich. I was really disappointed, and unfortunately, the tender turkey did not make up for the mushy hero as a whole. OVERRATED!
