Chong-man style

Chong loves In-n-Out but lives in NYC. When life hands you Shake Shack, you make the most of it. Or in Chong’s case you attempt fusion. No one hates fusion more than Chong, but the desire for Animal style led us to this:

Burgers. Chong-man style.

The ingredients: Shake Shack cheeseburger with lettuce and tomatoes, In-n-Out spread courtesy of an awkward request at the drive-thru in CA, sauteed onions (Spanish because it’s the cheapest) and french fries w/ cheese sauce.

Take apart the burger and lather on the spread:

Add the onions:

Don’t forget the fries!

I have omitted pictures of us actually eating the food. No one needs to see two beasts sucking sauce off their fingers and inhaling high-calorie food.

Looking forward to the Fall!

Goodbye Summer

It’s officially cold!  How it went from 80 to 60 in a few hours astounds me.  To hold onto that last bit of summer, I made some more fig-onion jam and sandwiched it between some fontina and thick-cut slices of sourdough from Sullivan Street Bakery.  Now THAT’S a grilled cheese sandwich.

Ode to summer

I’m trying to get in the habit of cooking regularly and thanks to Eataly’s birthday sale, I’ve been making some yummy and simple food.  The best deal was the 6oz steak for only $2!  Paired with a fig and onion jam and a peppery arugula salad, this made for a great lunch.  Reminds me of SF!

This hurricane is hella boring

so far anyways…

I made a chocolate cake and then smeared it with Nutella. Due to poor planning I had to empty out some of the water rations. Not to worry though, they have all been refilled and covered with plastic wrap.

Come on Irene

My first week in NY has been especially welcoming with all the earthquakes and hurricanes. The city is on lockdown, store shelves are empty.  Thankfully I already had a flashlight because they are nowhere to be found.  It took us 4 stores before even finding batteries!  Poor Alice doesn’t have a real flashlight OR water, but she DOES have lots of pots and bowls!

I went out earlier today just to postpone the onslaught of the inevitable cabin fever and there were still a lot of businesses open and people walking around.  There was even a line to get into Eatery, not an unusual sight.  My cousin overheard someone talking about what food staples they got at Food Emporium, and the list included mascarpone.  That totally makes sense.  When in crisis mode, sweet and creamy Italian cheeses will the save the day!
